Trafficking
is rapidly becoming the number one social justice issue of our day.
The number of people brought across international borders worldwide
for the sex trade or other forced labor is placed at anywhere from
400,000 to 1,000,000 annually.
The Felician Sisters support the efforts of both the Leadership
Council of Women Religious, a national organization, and of the
Tri-Diocesan Sisters Leadership Council, which locally represents
18 communities of women religious, through a group known as PATH, People Against the Trafficking of Humans. These organizations are committed
to raising public awareness of trafficking, which primarily victimizes
women and children, and to work with other groups to stop such abuse.
By prayer, education, and influencing public policy, the Sisters
hope to add their voices
to those crying out against this exploitation of human persons.
A fine resource that addresses this critical issue is the monthly
newsletter Stop
Trafficking!
